The Opportunity:

The Chief Technical Officer (CTO) will be a proven engineering visionary and software architect with a strong, successful background in delivery, SaaS architecture, and thought leadership. The CTO is accountable for HOW we go about executing our product vision, roadmap, implementation, and overall success. This individual will own Engineering, Quality Assurance, and DevOps, partnering with the CPO to develop, provide, lead, and execute the product vision for Stoplight. The most important short-term initiative for the new CTO will be to build out the process for a reliable and scalable global engineering group. This is a key role in helping to shape and drive the future success of the company as the industry leader in a very hot market of API Lifecycle Management.

Our objective is to add an outstanding CTO who will refine and lead the development of our innovative and disruptive product. The ideal candidate must be a strategic thought leader with a deep technology background, strong business acumen, demonstrated engineering leadership, and outstanding communication skills. 

 

We seek a CTO and a true thought leader who has led all aspects of global product at scale. The CTO will bring significant experience leading and growing the engineering group within our innovative startup. The CTO will bring credibility to the executive management and engineering teams and will be regarded by the employees and the marketplace as an immediate positive win for the company. 

 

This individual must be a forward thinker who is extremely focused and capable of creating an evolving strategy to meet and anticipate both near and long-term opportunities. The CTO will be comfortable operating in a challenging global environment, with the ability to embrace change while continuing to delight the customer. Additionally, this executive will work cross-functionally with a collaborative nature to share in owning the product vision and get support across the business.

  

The Requirements:

  • Aligning the organizational structure with the business strategy to provide the technical capacity to rapidly develop and launch new products
  • Drive continuous change and flexibility in the engineering organization while at the same time championing best practices for product and overall group operations 
  • Oversee the execution of an aggressive product development strategy and roadmap which will ultimately result in increased market share and rapid growth
  • Ensure competitive and sustainable systems and best practices are in place to promote consistency, viability, and operational efficiency 
  • Provide the company with effective and robust tools to manage the product development processes from an integrated end-to-end perspective allowing for a shortened time to market for new products/updates coupled with operational efficiencies and cost reduction 
  • Own and improve the continuous integration and delivery pipeline to rapidly deploy value to our customers
  • Ensure that the product we ship is living up to the highest quality standards
  • An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility
  • Self-motivated and self-managed, with great organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization

  • Domain knowledge relevant to the product stage in which you are looking to join (eg. someone with CI/CD experience applying for the Verify & Release team)
